2013 Duckhorn Vineyards Napa Valley Cabernet Franc
Sold Out
At Duckhorn Vineyards, we have been working with Napa Valley Cabernet Franc for over a quarter century, exploring its ability to add elegance and complexity to our blends and its capacity to produce stand-alone wines of stature and sophistication. Incorporating valley floor fruit with an emphasis on older vines, low yields and warmer vineyards, our Cabernet Franc offers beautiful varietal notes of dark cherry, raspberry and red currant with hints of tobacco leaf and graphite.
Wine Profile
Production Notes
Varietal Content: 100% Cabernet Franc; Cooperage: 100% French Oak, Chateau-style barrels (60 gallons); Age of Barrels: 50% new, 50% Second vintage
Winemaker Notes
This complex, age-worthy wine offers all of the hallmarks of great Napa Valley Cabernet Franc, including aromas of graphite, blackberry, sweet tobacco leaf and leather. Intense flavors of plum, Rainier cherry, cinnamon, licorice and strawberry sorbet unfold on the palate, supported by firm, yet impeccably balanced, tannins.
Production
The 2013 harvest was early, even and excellent with all of our Estate fruit in the winery by October 10th. A warm dry spring brought an early bud break and created ideal conditions for flowering and fruit set. In the weeks after Labor Day, a moderate heat event followed by a period of perfect weather created a dream scenario for end-of-season ripening. Rain was not a factor, and for the second vintage in a row, the quality of the grapes was exceptional throughout Napa Valley.
